How to Become a Better Track and Field Athlete
Do you know how to become a better track and field athlete? If you don´t, I will tell you some useful tips to help you out. The tips are very generalized and will work for any type sport or activity, not only track and field.
3 steps to become a better athlete
I have divided my “formula to succes” into 3, on paper, easy steps for you to try if you maybe want to run faster, jump higher or throw further.
Train like a track and field athlete
To become a better track and field athlete you got to have a workout plan that you believe will take you closer to your goals. You have to work hard and be focused, on every practice, and stay consistent with your workout schedule. If you are skipping practice, you will not become a better athlete.
Train smart and listen to your body. I think that it can be a good thing to be a little flexible when it comes to your workouts. If you, for some reason, feel a little tired one day you can adjust the volume of that day´s workout. In that way you will reduce the risk of being injured.
Eat like a track and field athlete
The food is you fuel and it will affect your performance. So if you want to be a better track and field athlete, it is important to be aware of what you are eating. Try to keep it as healthy as possible and match the food intake with your workout schedule. If you are having a really tough workout, your will probably need more energy that day.
As for the workouts it´s always good to have a plan. Schedule your meals so that they fit your workouts. For example, don´t eat too much food just before practice but always bring something to eat directly after your workout. Because directly after a hard workout, your body are screaming for energy.
Sleep like a track and field athlete
And the last step. You have to sleep to become a better Track and Field athlete. Physical activity breaks down the body and to become a better track and field athlete you have to recover and let your body rest. It is the sleep that makes you better, not the workouts.
The ideal amount of hours/night of sleep may vary a little bit but I usually recommend at least 8 hours. If you are staying up late and you don´t get enough sleep, you will increase the risk of getting injured or sick.
To become a better Track and Field athlete you have to spend a lot of time working out, you have to be aware of that what you are eating will have an impact on your performance and to become a better athlete you have to get your hours of sleep, every night.
